The global economy is forecast to grow 3.6% each year, and worldwide energy use is expected to grow 56% from 2010 to 2040, according to the latest outlook from the Energy Information Administration.
No surprise, much of that increase in energy consumption will be attributed to China. By 2040, China is forecast to use twice as much energy as the US. Even though India is expected to grow faster than the US, the country will use about half as much energy.
Renewable energy and nuclear power will be the fastest growing energy sources…but fossil fuels will still account for 80% of global energy. By 2040, carbon emissions will increase 46%.
